Deborra M. Smith MSW, LISW, President

Deborra Smith is the Administrator and President of Therapy Place, Inc. She has provided therapy services to individuals and families since 1985. Her current focus for TPI is on compliance and administrative duties. Deb also provides consultation for all clinical work in all offices for TPI as requested.
Deb with the assistance of Mary Oetter started Therapy Place, Inc., in 2000. In 2007, Deb received the Tom Lewis award from the Coalition for Families and Children's services for excellence in providing therapy services. TPI was opened after a need was identified to provide excellent mental health services in rural SW Iowa.

Mary Oetter is an integral part for starting Therapy Place, Inc. with the identified need for excellent mental health services in SW Iowa. Mary has provided therapy services to individuals and families since 1996. In addition to providing consultation, Mary's current focus is on developing groups for both the Atlantic and Council Bluffs offices. This current endeavor has arisen from requests from clients wanting to participate in a therapy groups. Mary currently provides groups for the Parents as Partners programs.
Annie Young MSW, LISW

Annie has extensive experience providing mental health services, most recently at Alegent Health. Annie provides group services for borderline personality disorders. She has been trained in PCIT, Parent Child Interaction Therapy. Annie has extensive experience working with adults with severe and persistent mental illness, dual diagnosis, and with adolescents and adults with addictions. Annie also facilitates the STEPPS group programs.

Jeanice has over 15 years of experience working with individuals in all age ranges. She has worked in many capacities during that time. Jeanice has extensive experience providing clinical services to children, adolescents, individual adults and families. She has been trained in PCIT, Parent Child Interaction Therapy, and Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR). She enjoys working with all ages and diagnosis with specialization in trauma and healthy attachment.

Kelly has over 20 years of experience working with Children and Adolescents.
Most recently 10 years at Alegent Creighton Health Mercy Hospital in the Acute Psychiatric Department of all ages. Kelly is experienced in working with clients dealing with Depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorders, Addictions, Grief and Dual Diagnosis. Kelly also volunteers with Ted E Bear Hallow. Kelly looks forward to working clients
using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach to help them achieve goals and improve their lives during a challenging time in their life.
Kelly sees clients in Atlantic on Monday and Thursday mornings and in Council Bluffs on Tuesday and Wednesday.
Caitlin Cool, MS, LMHC
Caitlin has over five years of experience working with Children and Adolescents. Most recently has spent the last 2 years at CHI Health Mercy Hospital in the Acute Psychiatric Department working with all ages. Caitlin is experienced in working with clients dealing with Depression, Oppositional Defiant Disorders, Addictions, Grief and Dual Diagnosis. Caitlin also volunteers with Ted E Bear Hallow. Caitlin looks forward to working clients using a Cognitive Behavioral Therapy approach among others to help clients achieve goals and improve their lives during challenging times in their life. Caitlin works with clients ranging in age from 7 to young adults, as well as the hard of hearing, deaf population.

Candella Foley-Finchem, LISW, IAADC

Candella has been working with people at all developmental stages to help them solve problems, grow, learn, and improve their lives for over 20 years. Her experience includes working with children, adolescents, young adults, and older adults. Beginning where the client is, she helps individuals and families break a mountain of problems into small, manageable steps, and encourages and supports them each step of the way. She uses a variety of approaches including Problem Solving, Systems Theory, EMDR, PCIT, (Parent Child Interaction Therapy), Cognitive Behavioral, and Motivational Enhancement/Stages of Change.
Prior to joining the Therapy Place Inc team, she served as Mental Health and Substance Abuse Therapist at CHI Health.

Alexis Hofker LMHC, LIMHP

Alexis has been working in the mental health field as a therapist for almost 10 years. Alexis has experiences working with families involved with Child Protective Services as an in-home therapist, mental health assessments for Nebraska Medicaid, outpatient therapy, partial hospitalization, and over 8 years working on an acute psychiatric unit. Alexis has experience working on a variety of mental health needs, including anxiety, depression, trauma, abuse, mood disorders, parenting, oppositional defiant disorder, attention deficit disorder, crisis work, and grief/loss. Alexis has done volunteer work for Ted E. Bear Hollow, completed EMDR training, completed Parent Child Interaction Therapy, and taken courses on Play Therapy. Alexis incorporates cognitive behavioral therapy as well as interactive/play based ideas to help clients reach goals. Alexis looks forward to working with a variety of clients, ranging from young children to adults, and has experiences working with clients as young as four years old.

Carol Logan-Brummer LMHC, CADC

Carol has a 24-year history of clinical work with children, adolescents, adults, and families in varying capacities. Carol's most recent position was working at Children's Square USA as Supervisor of Outpatient Mental Health and BHIS Services. Carol has extensive training and experience meeting the unique needs of those children/adolescents with Reactive Attachment Disorder and their families. In addition, she has spent many years working with youth/adults and families addressing substance abuse issues, dual diagnosis issues, transitional issues (such as grief and loss), addressing and resolving trauma, as well as working to address childhood/adolescent individual/family relational and parenting issues. Carol uses a variety of therapy approaches to address the varying needs of her clients; these including the use of Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy &Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT &TF-CBT), and Integrative Parenting. Carol is a member of the Green Cross Academy of Traumatology and EMDRIA (EMDR International Association).

Brittney Baxter Dameron, LISW

Brittney has been working in the social services field for 10 years and has worked with a variety of different clients in various settings including mental health therapy, supported community living, and residential treatment. She specializes in treating PTSD and trauma, and she is a certified EMDR therapist. She also works with people who struggle with depression, anxiety, domestic violence, anger issues, family and marriage problems, personality disorders, and more. Brittney works with individuals, couples, and families.

Brett has over 7 years of experience in the mental health field. He has recently worked as the program therapist at CHI Health Mercy Hospital’s Child/Adolescent Partial Program for the past 3 years. He is experienced in working with adults, children and adolescents as well as family therapy. Brett’s therapy approach includes; Solution focused and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy with a Client Centered approach. He is experienced in working with depression, anxiety, mood disorders, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder symptoms, oppositional defiant behaviors, dual diagnosis as well as daily functioning issues. Brett looks forward to helping those achieve positive change in their life as well as achieving their goals.

Sarah E. Herzberg, PhD

Dr. Sarah Herzberg is a licensed psychologist with over 22 years of experience working with rural populations in the mental health field. She began her career working on the Behavioral Health Unit at the Cass County Memorial hospital in Atlantic and most recently spent 11 years providing therapy, assessment, and consultation services at the Southwest Iowa Community Mental Health Center. Dr. Herzberg is versed in working with individuals across the lifespan. Using a Cognitive-Behavioral framework, she is knowledgeable in treating individuals with a variety of concerns including depression, anxiety, anger management, mood disorder, diversity issues, and chronic mental illness. She is experienced in cognitive assessment and provides both new and updated psychological evaluations for individuals with intellectual challenges and other cognitive concerns. Dr. Herzberg is a member of the American Psychological Association and is licensed as an Iowa Health Service Provider.

Tausha Coffman MS, LMHC

Tausha comes to Therapy Place Inc. with over 15 years’ experience in human services. She has experience working in a variety of settings including supportive community and vocational settings. Tausha also has experience working in a residential setting for children with behavioral issues. Tausha is a licensed mental health counselor with over 7 years’ experience providing therapy in a mental health center. She primarily focuses on utilizing cognitive behavioral approach in therapy which assists clients in understanding the correlation between our thoughts and mood and how to challenge and change our thinking to improve mood. Tausha works to assist individuals to get to the root of their problems and getting back to their desired level of functioning. Tausha has experience working with individuals with depression, anxiety and other mood disorders. She also has experience working with children from ages 4 and up with ADHD, and other behavioral disorders. Tausha also has training on trauma informed care to assist individuals with trauma and PTSD and addresses these topics with empathy and empowers individuals for healing.
